So you’re stuck wondering, Wix vs WordPress, which one is better for your business? Or maybe you’re not even sure what the difference is; you just want a website online and running. It’s a fair question. Both Wix and WordPress are big names in website building. Both have their pros and cons. And both get recommended depending on who you ask.
But let me give you my take as someone who actually builds websites for real people, not just writes fluff on the internet.
Getting Started: Wix is Easy, WordPress is Powerful
Wix is for people who want to drag, drop and go.
You sign up, pick a template, and you’re basically live. No hosting setup, no domain confusion, nothing too technical. That’s what makes it great for total beginners or small business owners who just need something online.
WordPress, on the other hand, takes a little more work upfront. You’ll need a hosting plan, a theme, and maybe a few plugins to get started. But once it’s set up, it’s your playground. You can build almost anything with it.
Design: Who Wins?
Both platforms have beautiful templates. But with WordPress, you can go further. Custom layouts, flexible design options, better control over responsiveness, all of that becomes possible if you know what you’re doing (or hire someone like me).
Wix is decent for clean, basic designs. But it can get frustrating when you hit a wall and want to tweak something outside of its limitations.
SEO: WordPress Takes the Lead
Let’s be honest. Wix vs WordPress in terms of SEO?
WordPress wins, and it’s not even close.
With the right setup (I use Yoast or Rank Math), your WordPress site is built for Google. Better URL structure, full control over metadata, proper sitemap tools; the works.
Wix has improved a lot in recent years, but it still has limitations. Especially if you care about long-term rankings, you’ll want the flexibility WordPress gives you.

CONTENT: Wix is great
Content generation can be a challenging thing these days. How do you come up with content ideas? Who writes the content for me? Well Wix has an excellent AI generator now. Not only can Wix generate your design layouts using AI, but it can also generate the content for you. There are WordPress plugins currently in the works that help with AI generation, but Wix definitely does this better. Pricing: A Bit of a Trick Question
Wix charges a monthly fee. It includes hosting, so it feels simple.
WordPress can be cheaper over the long run, but only if you know how to manage it.
At WebCraft Studio, we offer template websites from just R3500, and full personalized WordPress designs from R5000.
Once your WordPress site is live, you own it. No ongoing Wix fees.

So Which One Do I Recommend?
If you’re a solo entrepreneur or you’re launching something small without any long-term SEO goals, Wix is fine.
If you want something more scalable, more professional and built with growth in mind, go with WordPress.
Honestly, I work with both. I won’t push one on you. I’ll help you figure out what actually suits your goals and your budget.
